English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D)

At Telopea PS, English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) education operates as an integral part of the school curriculum with class teachers working with school staff to establish learning plans for students acquiring English. The class teacher will meet with executive and devise a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP) for EAL/D students who will be placed in an age appropriate class.

All EAL/D students will be assesssed on the EAL/D learning progressions to determine their individual needs. Students assessed as Beginning or Emerging English may also be identified to receive additional support through our oral English Language Program which currently operates over 4 sessions per week. This program offers 4 weekly sessions for younger students and 4 weekly sessions for older students to ensure students are placed in an age appropriate chohort.
