There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
Student Highlights

Athletics
Our annual athletics carnival is held at Curtis Oval in Dundas Valley. Students have the opportunity to participate in competitive track and field events as well as a variety of novelty activities. Each year, we send a team of talented athletes to represent our school at the Zone PSSA Athletics Championships at Sydney Olympic Park.
Cross Country
Each year we run a cross country carnival on our school grounds. Students build up endurance through training sessions in class physical education lessons in the lead up to the event. We have many talented runners who go on to compete at the Zone and Regional Cross Country Championships.
Swimming
Our annual swimming carnival is held at Parramatta Aquatic Centre. Students have the opportunity to compete in a variety of events including the various strokes and distances as well as novelty races. Each year we send a team of swimmers to represent our school at the Zone Swimming Championships.
Creative Arts
We offer a variety of creative and practical arts opportunities tailored to the special talents and needs of our students. This can include choir, dance, drama, music and debating. This year, we have a recorder group participating in the Festival of Instrumental Music at the Sydney Opera House.
Performance Opportunities
At Telopea Public School, we foster the unique talents and interests of our students. We have a number of talented musicians and include performance opportunities at out whole school assemblies and special events.
Yarn Up
We run a regular Yarn Up group for our Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander students and their families. This group is an important part of our whole school commitment to excellence in Aboriginal Education. Students enjoy yarning and learning about their history and culture through storytelling, art and other activities.
Telopea Clubs
Telopea Clubs is a very popular activity at our school. Students work in small, cross-stage groups to develop social and emotional skills, make new friends and complete a special interest project together. Popular Telopea Clubs activities include Lego robotics, photography, cooking, STEM and art.
Gardening Program
All students K to 6 attend a weekly gardening program incorporating science, environmental and sustainability lessons. This unique program allows students to learn about the environment across the seasons and apply this knowledge to healthy living initiatives. Our specialist teacher organises a range of opportunities for our students including cooking lessons with Fresh For Kids, recycling programs with the local council and tending our hives with Sydney Stingless Bees.
Student Leadership
Our student leadership team is an integral part of ensuring student voice is incorporated into decision making at our school. Our active Student Representative Council meets regularly to discuss issues, solve problems and organise fundraising and special events at our school. Our senior students have the opportunity to nominate for election into our school leadership team as school or sports captains.
A year at our school
Book Week & Parade
Each year we celebrate Book Week with special library lessons, a visiting performance and a community book parade event.
Education Week Open Day
Our students and teachers love celebrating learning with their parents and carers during our Education Week Open Day. We host a special assembly, a picnic morning tea and open classrooms for all the community to enjoy.
Community Events
We host a number of community events throughout the year to mark special days on the school calendar. These may include an Easter hat parade, a Mother's and Father's Day breakfast, and Education Week events. Our hard working P&C also host a number of special events and activities for our students and the wider community throughout the year.
Kindergarten Orientation
Our Kindergarten Orientation Program is an important part of supporting our youngest students and their families in their transition to school. We host a Teddy Bear's Picnic early in Term 4, followed by an information session for parents and carers and classroom visits for our students. Families are also to encouraged to join our SaCC playgroup and storytime programs in the years leading up to starting school.
School as Community Centre
Our Schools as Community Centre facilitator, Pip Martins, runs a host of programs throughout the year to support families with young children. These include weekly supported playgroup, sing, rhyme & storytime, breakfast club, parenting classes and new parents' groups. All programs are free to families in our local community.
Stage 3 Camp
Students in Years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to attend a 3-day camp encouraging independence through active and healthy living. Our most recent camp to Point Wolstoncroft Sport and Recreation Centre was a huge success with students enjoying activities such as kayaking, rock climbing, archery, BMX riding and damper making on the campfire.
Public Speaking and Debating
Our students have the opportunity to participate in a number of public speaking and debating opportunities throughout the year, developing critical thinking, confidence and teamwork skills.
Dance
Students K to 6 participate in a dance program with specialist dance teachers aligned to the Creative Arts Syllabus. This is a very popular program, with students developing confidence in their dance skills as well as having a lot of fun!
Swim Scheme
Swim scheme is offered each year during Term 4,. This is an intensive learn to swim program, which develops water confidence and provides students with basic skills in water safety and survival.
100 Days of Kindy
This is a special day of celebration for our Kindergarten students on their 100th day of school. They love dressing up as a 100 year old and participating in lots of fun class activities with their teacher.
Harmony Day
Our school celebrates and recognises diversity in the bringing together of families from all different backgrounds. We learn about inclusiveness, respect and develop a sense of belonging for everyone at our school.
Excursions
Excursions are scheduled throughout the year to complement our class teaching and learning programs. Most recently we have enjoyed visits to the Schoolhouse Museum in Ryde, Calmsley Hill City Farm and Gibberagong Environmental Education Centre.
Sporting Programs
A variety of sporting activities are organised throughout the year as part of our Physical Education Program. Students attend weekly sport and PE lessons with their class teacher as well as additional programs provided through Sporting Schools and our local sporting partners. These may include netball, NRL, basketball, AFL, Athletics or soccer programs. Most recently we enjoyed a whole school sporting fun day with Motiv8 sports.
